OUR STORY
Founded in 2018 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Interlaken Wildlife Foundation was established by Gary Dietrich on his private 2,200-acre property near Cameron, South Carolina. Gary Dietrich, his wife, Carolyn Dietrich, and their daughter, Mary Gallup, served as the organization's original directors.
Mr. Dietrich's vision for IWF was to create programs that would allow the public to experience and appreciate the natural beauty of the property while protecting its diverse wildlife. He also intended for the land to be permanently preserved as a nature sanctuary, ensuring its ecological integrity and conservation for future generations.
OUR APPROACH TO OUTDOOR LEARNING
Interlaken Wildlife Foundation offers customized educational programs for schools that combine environmental education with hands-on, outdoor learning experiences. Designed to complement classroom curriculum standards, these interactive programs encourage students to explore nature, wildlife, archaeology, and local history while fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for the environment.
JOIN OUR VOLUNTEER TEAM
Interlaken Wildlife Foundation offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for those who want to make a difference. Volunteers can assist with "Take One, Make One" hunts, mentor Local Explorers, support educational programs and community events, and help with conservation and outreach activities. Every volunteer plays an important role in inspiring the next generation while supporting the Center's mission.
