LEARNING THROUGH NATURE

Learning through nature helps people explore, discover, and develop new skills through hands-on experiences. Outdoor activities encourage curiosity, creativity, and teamwork while supporting physical and emotional wellbeing. Nature makes learning enjoyable, meaningful, and memorable.

The Interlaken Wildlife Foundation offers a variety of outdoor education and conservation programs that connect people of all ages with South Carolina's natural resources. The Center provides fishing programs for youth and senior citizens, creating opportunities to learn angling skills, enjoy the outdoors, and build an appreciation for aquatic conservation. Youth and adult quail hunting opportunities introduce participants to safe, ethical hunting practices and responsible wildlife stewardship. In addition, the Interlaken Wildlife Center hosts the annual Calhoun Sporting Clays event, bringing together outdoor enthusiasts for friendly competition while supporting conservation and education initiatives.

The Center is also home to the Gary Dietrich Wildlife Management Apprenticeship Program, which provides students and recent graduates with hands-on training in wildlife, fisheries, and natural resource management. Apprentices gain practical experience while developing valuable skills that prepare them for careers in conservation and natural resource management. To learn more about the Center's programs or to apply for the Gary Dietrich Wildlife Management Apprenticeship Program, visit SCWA.org.

Future plans include the implementation of new initiatives such as a youth engagement program, a public archaeology program, and expanded exploration and preservation of local cultural heritage and history. The future of Interlaken Wildlife Center is bright and full of exciting opportunities for our community, especially local youth.
